We know that visiting a church for the first time and entering unfamiliar territory can be uncomfortable and a little intimidating but we are confident that if you just show up with an open heart and mind and be yourself you’ll have a great experience at Higher Ground.
Where & when…We are at 100 Old Tpk. Rd. (Rte. 4) in Nottingham, approx. 3 miles east of Rt. 43 and approx. 3 miles west of the Lee Traffic Circle. We have 2 Sunday Services: 9:00am, and 10:30am. (Kids Church is during 10:30 service). Check out our Events page for scheduled events.
Who we are…We are a body of believers united by our desire to follow Jesus Christ. We are committed to fulfilling His purpose for our lives, supported by the entire Higher Ground church family…Our church is made up of ordinary people from all walks of life who understand the need to continually rely on God to get through our daily lives. We are here to connect people with God and with each other…Although some of us dress informally and our Worship services are contemporary in style, we have the utmost reverence for the power of God and the sacredness of His Word. Our main goal is and will always be to glorify the Lord and exalt Him in true worship…At Higher Ground, what we believe, our guiding principles, our preaching and teaching, and our Praise and Worship ministry is firmly seated and informed by the inspired Word of God as revealed to us in the Holy Bible …There are many people who serve at Higher Ground, each wearing different hats at different times to serve the Lord in all kinds of ways. God has drawn together a wonderfully diverse group of individuals with many different gifts to serve the Kingdom needs of Nottingham and the surrounding communities not just on Sunday, but every day. This is a place where you can be yourself and know that you are loved.
What to expect on Sunday…real…passionate…fun…true…All-out, God-focused worship…powerful preaching and sound doctrine.
What to wear…we’re laid back. All we ask is that you be modest. Our goal is for you to feel comfortable and welcome just as you are, so if you connect with God more easily in your blue jeans then slap on your Levis…if a suit and tie helps you to prepare for worship then go for it. Our focus is not on who wears what here but on connecting people with God and with eachother. Just come as you are.
For kids…Kids love church here! We have Jesus-centered classes for ages 0 through 6th grade on Sundays. Youth group(grades 4-12) on Thursdays from 6:30 to 8pm. Please visit our ministries page to learn more about Kids Church and Youth Group.
The Absolutes at HGBC…
God… the creator of everything, knows everything, and has power over everything. He knows your good stuff and bad stuff and still loves you more than you can imagine.
Jesus… He came, He died, and was brought back to life so we can be reconnected to the father. When we believe in Him, we have the perfect friend, and are totally accepted. He gives us life now and forever.
The Holy Spirit… God in Spirit who lives within us when we believe in Jesus. He gives us power and spiritual gifts.
The Bible… the word of God, and men were inspired by the Holy Spirit to write it.
Salvation… received by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone. It cannot be earned, and thus cannot be lost.
Friend, the Christian faith is, if anything, a discovery of who God is, who we are, and how we can have the relationship with God that we were designed to have. And faith is not a one-time discovery, but rather a lifetime of gaining understanding.
