Seeds of Faith…how we began and where we are now…

Higher Ground Baptist Church was started by our pastor George Jackman. Please visit the Pastors page to check out his story. It began as one man’s obedience to a burden that God had put in his heart to reach out to people in New England and show them the love, mercy, and grace of God. Pastor George Jackman and his lovely wife Sherry, who are originally from Newburyport, MA, took the leap of faith to move with their 3 children to Northwood, NH from Port Charlotte, FL where George was ordained.
Heeding the Lord’s call to return to New England to plant a church, the Jackmans began holding church services right in their home in late 2006. It was clear that George’s powerful preaching and sharing was connecting with the surrounding community, as we quickly outgrew the Jackman’s kitchen. Higher Ground became incorporated in Jan. 2007, and were blessed to be able to worship every week at the Northwood Elementary School until Palm Sunday, 2008 when we held our first service at our new location at 100 Old Turnpike Rd (Rt. 4) in Nottingham.
Our building currently has a worship hall on the 1st floor where services are held and Children’s Church is facilitated on the 2nd floor. The property consists of 20+ beautiful acres that include two athletic fields and a nature trail (in progress). We currently have 14 different ministries and more being birthed. Our Rochester Church plant begins April 3rd, 2011 also, so be sure to stay tuned for more history in the making.
God has brought and continues to bring a diverse family of people together who celebrate our differences and use our various gifts to serve our Heavenly Father and bring his children to Him. We have shared and celebrated so much as a family already, and will continue to grow together here and everywhere else that the Lord expands Higher Ground. We have certainly experienced God’s blessing through this whole journey, and through archiving we will always remember where it all began, and share it with our family generations to come. As our fellowship family continues to grow we cannot wait to see what else God has planned.
