We give all glory to God for putting desire in the hearts of his people to use the gifts and abilities he’s given to carry out his work through ministry. Through the research of other Christian ministries and the leading of the Holy Spirit, these writings are a collection of borrowed and inspired words that reflect what we believe…What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. Ecclesiastes 1:9 (NIV)
“Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not have all the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.” Romans 12:4-5
Each one of us has a physical body, which houses our spirit, and while we are all different from one another, we make up one local church body. In the same way every local Christ-centered church may look and act a little differently, they are still filled with God’s Holy Spirit, and a working part of His one, true, universal Body…
…and just like the human body is a fusion of muscles, bones, blood, and organs, working together in-synch, so is a local church made up of different people with different functions and purposes, working cohesively together to make up a healthy functioning body of believers.
You can get a sense of the different parts of the HGBC body by exploring our 12 developing and growing ministries. As submitted and committed followers of Jesus Christ, we know that each of us has a part to play in putting into action the purpose of our calling. Whether we are a body of 10, 100, or 2,000 there will always be ministry opportunities for everyone here at Higher Ground. There are many needs so don’t worry if you’re not sure yet what you can do…even if it is not in your area of giftedness -your service will produce fruit if it’s done unto the Lord.
The main thing is that Christ is the head and that we as the body strive for unity. At Higher Ground no role is ever independent from the rest of God’s people. Just like a physical body –if all parts are working in unison and doing their part it will thrive and if one part suffers, other parts need to work a little harder to help promote healing. When you serve in the name of Christ where help is needed you can expect to be served in return when you are in need. As the Body of Christ in action, we can hold each other up as we walk through the fires of life and we can celebrate victories together in times of joy. We are all on a journey, yet none of us were called to walk alone. Together we can fulfill God’s purpose in our lives while making a difference for the overall cause of Christ.
In closing, consider these words from the Apostle Paul…
“Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit –just as you were called to one hope when you were called –one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” Ephesians 4:3-6
“…speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does it’s work.” Ephesians 4:15-16
